  • 3 pounds beef brisket
  • 2 large yellow onions, sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup dark brown sugar
  • 2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar

Instructions

  1. Trim excess fat from the brisket and pat it dry.
  2. In a large skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat and sear the brisket for about 5 minutes on each side until browned.
  3. Sauté sliced onions in the same skillet for about 10 minutes until golden brown; add minced garlic during the last minute.
  4. Mix brown sugar, smoked paprika, salt, pepper, and vinegar in a bowl to create a marinade.
  5. Place the brisket in a slow cooker or oven-proof pot, pour the onion mixture over it, and add beef broth halfway up the sides of the meat.
  6. Cook on low for 8 hours or high for 4 hours (slow cooker), or bake covered at 300°F (150°C) for 4-5 hours (oven) until tender.
  7. Let rest for at least 20 minutes before shredding and serving.
