- 3 pounds beef brisket
- 2 large yellow onions, sliced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup dark brown sugar
- 2 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
Instructions
- Trim excess fat from the brisket and pat it dry.
- In a large skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat and sear the brisket for about 5 minutes on each side until browned.
- Sauté sliced onions in the same skillet for about 10 minutes until golden brown; add minced garlic during the last minute.
- Mix brown sugar, smoked paprika, salt, pepper, and vinegar in a bowl to create a marinade.
- Place the brisket in a slow cooker or oven-proof pot, pour the onion mixture over it, and add beef broth halfway up the sides of the meat.
- Cook on low for 8 hours or high for 4 hours (slow cooker), or bake covered at 300°F (150°C) for 4-5 hours (oven) until tender.
- Let rest for at least 20 minutes before shredding and serving.
